Is your child prepared for class?

Walhamdulillah we know that being prepared is essential to building strong characteristics and morals related to a host of task that will come forth later in life. Example of this is punctuality, surely you cannot be late for work everyday this would result in the lost of employment! So here are some suggestions on helping your child/children prepare for the homeschool day inshaAllah

Starting homeschool can be a difficult time for children. Every child is hesitant to go somewhere new and see people she's never met before. Here are some helpful ways to prepare your child for her first day of school inshaAllah:

Talk it Out

Be open to talking about your child's feelings about Middle School/high school. Be excited and encouraging and don't constantly dwell on your own experiences in school. Showing enthusiasm may rub off on them and if your child shares her expectations, you might be able to eliminate unnecessary stress by dispelling any false notions she may have. Be sure to attend orientation day if the school offers one. Your child may discourage you from attending, but it is an important step to understanding the educational experience your child will have.

Be Prepared

Before your child begins school, be sure that she has developed and understands good study habits and organization. The workload in high school will be more demanding than that of junior high or middle school. Be sure that your child is aware and capable of handling the homework and projects that will come. If they are prepared and ready for the work, it will make the experience much less stressful.

Iron Out the Details

Be sure that you are clear with your children about transportation arrangements to and from school. Will they get a ride from a neighbor or will you be driving? Also, be sure that your child arrives at school with all the necessary binders, paper, pens, pencils, calculators, etc. Forgetting homework or supplies can cause unnecessary stress.

Chapter 6 of the book "A Warning To The Son Of Adam About The Origins Of Evil"
Shaykh Abu Nasr Muhammad Ibn Abdullah Al-Imam.

The person who turns away from the Quran or Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah – or even a portion of it – is actually neglecting the truth that their Lord made obligatory for the Son of Adam to follow. The following is an extract we’ve selected from Ibn Al-Qayyim’s tremendous book, AlFawa’id, on the state of the people who turn away from the truth:

The natural disposition of the Son of Adam is corrupted whenever they turn away in discontent, from the Book of Allah and the Sunnah, and then turn to the opinions and statements of the learned. Darkness looms in their hearts and confusion muddles their understanding. Their reasoning is destroyed. They’re blind to the reality of their situation so much so, at times, they rear their young in corruption and their old grow senile. Moreover, due to a state of denial, they can’t see (their backward situation).

Consequently, a new climate arises wherein Sunnah is substituted for bid’ah; reason for feelings; guidance for desires; direction for misguidance; good for evil; knowledge for ignorance; sincerity for insincerity; truth for falsehood; honesty for dishonesty; advice for flattery and justice is substituted for injustice.

In the end, the change takes place and the (topsy-turvy) influence gains the upper hand. Yet before this, the situation was different – normal. So when you see that the correct state of mind has been turned upside down and the reversed way of living is close at hand, its banners have been erected, and its armies have mounted, the earth’s interior will be better than its surface. The small mountains will be better than the plains, and mixing with the wild beast will be better than mixing with the people.

Imam Al-Bukhari narrated a hadith on the authority of Abu Waaqid Al-Laythee that three people approached The Messenger of Allah while he was talking to his companions. The first person saw an opening in the circle and sat down. The second person was shy and the third person walked away from the gathering. When the Prophet finished his speech he said:

“As for the first one, he seeks shelter and in return Allah shelters him. The second person was shy with Allah so Allah was the same with him. But the third person turned away from Allah and in return Allah turned away from him.”

Pay attention! If Allah turned away from the person who shunned a circle of beneficial knowledge only once, then what about the individual who abandons learning the Quran and the Guidance of His Messenger, altogether? And, what about the condition of the person who turns away from acting in accordance with Islaam?

If they seek knowledge, they only seek secular knowledge. If they unite, they only unite on worldly concerns. If they listen, they only pay attention to current events. If they read, they only read magazines, newspapers and journals, which increase them in deviation. In our current times, turning away from the Quran and Sunnah has spread. So where will the guidance come from for those people who turn away?? We take this issue of the strangeness of Islam and its people to Allah.

Whoever wants to fully understand this matter then let him follow the caravan of the traveler to Allah; but if this path is hidden, then let him hasten to the truth, outwardly and inwardly.
